Junior League of Martin County’s 2010 Pajama Jam a Huge Success

Stuart, FL, March 30, 2010- The 2010 Pajama Jam, hosted at Wahoo’s on the Waterfront by the Junior League of Martin County, was a huge success, raising over $1,000 and 200 donated items. The party started at 8:00pm on Friday, March 26th and attracted hundreds of pajama clad patrons to the event. The entire Wahoo’s staff, including owners Kim and Guy Scotchel, showed their support by wearing their pajamas for the evening as well.

“Hey, how often do you get to wear your PJ’s to work?” said Jumpin Junior, DJ for the event. “Plus it’s such a great cause.”

The Junior League of Martin County organized the event to attract donations of pajamas, underwear, socks and bras for local foster children. Many children who are removed from unsafe situations have to leave very quickly, and are unable to take their personal belongings with them. While generous donors give new and slightly used clothes and shoes in the community, pajamas, underwear, socks and bras are donated less often and must be new to be accepted.

Attendees brought a donated item and/or a cash donation of $10 and Wahoo’s generously donated the first round for everyone who donated.

“Especially when the economy is tight, these kids need our help,” said Andi Poli, Community VP for the Junior League of Martin County.

The donated items will be given to children in need through United for Families and the 4Cs in Stuart. Both organizations had representatives at the event in appropriate attire.

The Pajama Contest was a tight competition. Each winner received either a $25 Wahoo’s bar tab or gift certificate to Victoria’s Secret. United for Families case worker Andrew Givens was recognized for his pajama color coordination skills. Other winners included Ryan Askeland for Cutest Pajamas, Lesley Frear for the Pajama Jam Spirit Award, Donna DeMarchi for Best Accessories, Steve Banaziack for Comfiest PJ’s, and Laurie Herter for the I Can’t Believe You Wore That In Public Award for her hair curlers.

“Wahoo’s was the absolute perfect location for this event,” said Kara Thornberry, Community Involvement Committee Chair for the Junior League of Martin County. “We couldn’t have hoped for a more cooperative and hospitable host. I don’t think we could have had such a great event without their support.”
